# Straight answers.

Licensing, privacy, timing, platforms. Ten questions, no hedging.

### Is Oknola open source?

No — and here's the reasoning instead of a dodge. The part you have to trust is your files, and that part is fully open: plain, portable markdown on an open standard. Delete Oknola tomorrow and your whole structure opens in any editor — that's a guarantee you can verify today, not a promise you have to believe. The app's code stays ours because paid modules on our own core are what fund a free-forever app with no subscription, no ads, and no selling your data. Open format, closed app, verifiable exit — that's the deal.

### What's free and what's paid?

The Oknola app is free — it builds your structure, keeps it clean, and syncs through your own Google Drive. Modules and superpowers are paid, each optional, each priced on the time it buys back. Removing one never touches your data.

### What if I already use Obsidian?

Then your notes are already plain markdown, so moving in is pointing Oknola at the folder: nothing migrates. From there Oknola does the part an editor leaves to you: typing, tagging and filing every note, and keeping your agent inside the tags you allow. If you'd rather stay in Obsidian, the same structure comes as an Obsidian vault from [Indexed Brain](https://indexedbrain.com/start-free), and you can start with its free Core. The tending stays with you.

### When can I use it?

Early access opens in waves as the app is ready — the waitlist is the queue, first come, first served. We publish sequence, not dates; the Roadmap explains why.

### Where does my data live when the AI runs?

Two states, one doctrine.

### What is the Open Knowledge Format?

OKF is the open, vendor-neutral markdown spec Google introduced in 2026 for handing AI agents curated context — it standardizes how each file is typed, tagged, and described. It's where Oknola gets its name.

### What platforms?

macOS and Android first, iOS later — we'd rather say so than promise it. Sync runs through your own Google Drive for free today; native cross-platform sync comes later.

### How is access decided?

In waves, first come, first served. The one question we ask when you join — your biggest time-sink — decides what we build first. That's the whole mechanism.

### Is Oknola only for business?

No. The same structure runs the rest — habits, health, meals, journals, courses, ideas — and the separation between them is the permission model: an AI agent sees the area you point it at, nothing more. Your journal stays out of scope while it works your pipeline. Business and personal live in separate areas by design, so nothing mixes — not your files, and not what your agent reads. And all of it runs on the free app — modules monetize business jobs; your life is never behind a paywall.

### Won't an AI wreck my notes?

That fear is earned — agents let loose on an unstructured vault really do "reorganize" things into rubble. Two things make it safe here. The structure is enforced: anything an agent writes has to conform to the schema — typed, tagged, filed where it belongs — or it doesn't land. And everything is plain files, so version control works: every change inspectable, every change reversible. Plus the scope rule always holds — an agent only touches the area you pointed it at.
